Ven. Wanduramba Kassapa Thero was ordained with Ven. Bogahawewa Rathana on 31st Oct 1992 as a pupil of the chief Sangha Nayaka, Colombo District, Thripitakacharya, Vichitra Bhanaka, Saddarma Vagishwara Most Ven. Borelle Athula who is also the chief incumbent of the three institutions, Athula Dassana Buddhist Temple, Bauddhaloka Mawatha, Colombo 08, Ganalankara Bhiksha Gilan Madhyasthanaya (centre for the sick monks) of Chandralekka Mawatha, Colombo 08 and Athula Dassana Swarnapali Bauddha Aramaya, Stafford road, Colombo 05.
Ven. Wanduramba Kassapa Thero studied Thripitaka Dhamma as well as Pali and Sanskrit at the Vidyodaya maha Pirivena, Maligakanda road, Colombo 10, up to Vidyodaya finals. Ven. Wanduramba Kassapa Thero obtained high ordination as a pupil of Most Ven. Borelle Athula, the chief Sangha Nayaka, Colombo District, late Most Ven. Thallale Gnanalankarabhidana and Ven. Mapalane Shanatha, Co-chief Incumbent of Jayasekhararamaya, Kuppiyawatta, maradana and Chief Sangha Nayaka of Kadawath Sathara, Colombo.
Ven. Wanduramba Kassapa Thero Studied Dhamma at the feet of most Ven. Borelle athula and participated with great enthusiasm in the national, religious and social activities organised by Most Ven. Borelle Athula and I was able to gain a very good knowledge in those activities.
Sangha Profile
At the age of 25 years Ven. Wanduramba Kassapa Thero served as co-chief incumbent of Sri Sambodhi Viharaya in the village of Dolakanda in Dehiatta Kandiya area. Ven. Wanduramba Kassapa Thero was able to win the hearts of the other monks and respect of the people of the area for the services I he rendered for the welfare of the temple as well as for the villagers.
Ven. Wanduramba Kassapa Thero came to England in 2004 for the special mission of propagation of Dhamma. After engaging in national, religious and social activities in a number of temples for 7 years, Ven. Wanduramba Kassapa Thero have established a temple under his own patronage. The temple which in known as Athula Dassana international Buddhist Temple is also known as Heathrow Temple.
The teaching of Lord Buddha is the only path to cultivate and improve our human nature and to rescue the future generation from developing wrongful attitudes, at a time when the society today has forgotten human values.
Therefore, it is our duty to protect the Dhamma and improve our lives accordingly. In view of this great objective and on behalf of the 2600th Sambuddhatva Jayanthi, this temple is established with the intention of building up a virtuous society observing the five precepts and also for the benefit of Buddhists in the area by conducting daily religious rituals.
