Children are the future of a country, and encouraging them and promoting their education is vital. As Buddhists we are taught the importance of giving to the less fortunate. At Athula Dassana Multicultural Buddhist Community Centre ( Reg Charity No. 1155139), We aim to help the less fortunate children with charitable aid and encourage all who are capable to donate to our worthy cause.
Our Scholarship Programmes
On 17th December 2016, a charitable event took place at Athula Dassana Buddhist Centre, Borella, Sri-Lanka. The event was organised by Venerable Wanduramba Kassapa Thero of ADMCBCC, Heathrow, United Kingdom. This year Ven Wanduramba Kassapa Thero was accompanied by some of the sponsors of the project, namely Dr.Nishanie Bajramovic(BDS), Mrs. Anju Tamang and Mrs Salma Amod of Estetica Dental Clinic Camberley, who’s patients’ kind donations helped to raise £1200 within a 3 week period to help with sponsorships, as well as Mr.Asanka Hemachandra.
The purpose of the event was to help children of rural schools with books and materials for their school uniforms as well as all necessary school kits. Scholarship is to facilitate continuity of the children’s education until they leave school. Due to the kindness of our sponsors which included devotees of The Athula Dassana Buddhist Centre Heathrow UK, we have been able to provide more scholarships than previous years. In all, 80 children who were selected from different areas received the opportunity of the sponsorships. Home cooked delicious healthy food was offered in the morning and evening to the children and their parents. Before the Scholarship ceremony, the children and parents had an opportunity to visit the Temple of Gangaramaya and Galle face beach. In some cases this was the first ever visit to the ocean for children. During the programme some of the children performed their variety of talents. Some of children performed instrumentals in an excellent way. eg:- violin, some of them sang beautifully. All the parents and pupils of the school appreciated the continuous effort of Ven. Wanduramba Kassapa Thero and his devotees in helping people in Sri Lanka.
The event was a great success, and proved that Ven. Kassapa is highly capable of intrinsic organising, and that the generosity of giving fulfils the extreme necessities of the rural schools of Sri-Lanka. We Thank you all graciously for the continuous support given to our children in need in our motherland. ADMCBCC continues to help Sri Lankans in need with charitable help, and encourage all who are capable to donate to our worthy cause
